By genre
Find musicians who play your genre.
Pick up to 8 genres, add the instruments you need, and see who is playing nearby. Shared genres show on every card.
Genres that overlap
JamFan knows a post-punk fan and an indie-rock fan belong together, so you find people who like what you like, not only exact tags.
Genre plus instrument
Jazz pianists, punk bassists, folk fiddlers: combine genres with instruments and a distance.
Hear it first
Every card plays, so a shared genre is something you can hear, not just a tag.
Popular genres
Rock, pop, punk rock, alternative rock, metal, blues, country, jazz, folk and ambient are all on JamFan. Search any of them alongside your instrument and your distance.
Niche genres are welcome
JamFan has thousands of genres, from shoegaze to afrobeat. If the one you want is small, widen your distance and set an alert so you hear when someone joins.
The directory
Every city has a scene.

Questions
Common questions.
Can I search for musicians by genre?
Yes. Pick up to 8 genres in the musician search, add instruments and a place, and see who fits.
What if my genre is small?
Widen your distance and set an alert from Browse. JamFan tells you when someone who fits joins.
Does a shared genre show on the card?
Yes. Shared genres have a dot and an outline, and the reason row says things like “You both play garage rock”.
